When you think of the term “WAG” I am sure you think of the glamorous Victoria Beckham, or the perfectly groomed Cheryl Cole. Well picture this; at 18 years old I was stamped with the label “WAG” when I started dating my childhood sweetheart and brother’s best friend Joel. The vision and persona that came with the term “WAG” certainly did not fit my image! I was an 18 year old with yellow hair from when I had attempted to dye it blonde myself. I had short stubby nails from continuous gnawing (I still do) and a lovely little potbelly from cheap £4.23 wine (again, still here). Not quite what you would expect, right?
At just 21 I married Joel, and by the grace of God Joel’s presence in the football world continued to grow. However with these exciting new times came expectations of how I should look, act and be as a ‘WAG’. The thing is, growing up with two brothers I developed a strong will and I wasn’t going to change who I am and what I believe in to fit the mould people expected.
Jessica Lilly is my way of creating a world where I can just be me, Jess Ward, a 22-year-old university student married to her best friend. My review’s, opinions and outfits are all things I genuinely like and wear. By no means would I say I am a fashion expert or professional make up artist in fact I am quite the opposite, which is why I think this blog is going to be fun. Together, we can help each other, ill teach you my tips and you teach me yours.
Follow my journey with Jessica Lilly, wherever it is that life takes me. If you can take just one thing from my blog, let it be that by no means does any label, social pressure or stigma need to define you.
