With the arrival of summer (Ish) I thought what better way to begin then with my top 5 summer beauty bag essentials. As much as I love the summer season it can always be fun finding that perfect balance between a fresh dewy glow and a sticky sweaty mess. Over the years it has become clear to me that less is definitely more during this season, so put away your heavy winter make up and start to update your beauty bag with lightweight products. In this post you will discover my essentials to finding that perfect balance and the secrets I use to give me that "holiday" glow. Whether you’re going on "vacay" or milling around the local park these 5 products will keep you looking like you walked off a victoria secrets runway.
The BY TERRY Soleil Terrybly Sun Booster is a regular amongst my summer beauty routine and it should be in yours too. Once you have got past the steep price (£70, i know, i know) you will fall in love with this product just as I did. I can ensure you the terribly sun booster is so worth the price and here’s why, It fulfils the three needs of your skin during summer:
- Hydration to avoid dry flaky summer skin
- A progressive tan, to help you look like you've been on holiday even if you haven't.
- Protects against those nasty UV rays
Yes, that’s right, this product is simply the perfect 3 in 1. A sun cream, a self-tanner and a moisturiser, and… if you’re not already adding it to your Space NK basket.... I can promise you this product smells like summer in a bottle, leaving your skin feeling and smelling amazing.
On summer vacation I don't like wearing foundation in the day, so this is my go to. It helps keep my skin moisturized whilst protecting me from UV rays and to top it all off it gives my skin that dewy look. And the best bit, it works on all skin tones.
A SPALSH OF COLOUR
These NARS Illuminator light reflecting liquids glide on to enhance your completion and create a shimmering luminosity. These Illuminator come in four shades 'Copacabana', 'Orgasm', 'Super Orgasm' and 'Laguna'. Although with these products you can pretty much use them as you wish I would recommend mixing Laguna or Copacabana with your foundation for a gorgeous glow or Orgasm and Super Orgasm (take a moment to get past those names) as a pop of added colour to give that cheek some highlight. An additional golden tip with these products is to use them to highlight your collarbone and shoulders.
Mac prep + prim fix + is an all year winner for me, as it gives you a finished make up and instant hydrated, refreshed look. It is a lightweight mist of water packed with vitamins and minerals, infused with a blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber to gently soothe and refresh the skin. The reason I love this product and think its must is because it gives an instant boost of hydration while delivering a soft glow to refresh and finish makeup and it also helps keep your make up in place for longer (WIN).
PRETTY IN PINK
The shade that started my nude lip obsessions, and the one I permanently reach too is Dahliana Kevin Aucoin. It is a lightweight liquid lip, which leaves you with a rich nude colour, moisture and a patent gloss finish. The reason this lip-gloss became such a huge hit for me is hugely down to its formula, one thing I can't stand (especially in heat) is a sticky lipstick. Let’s get one thing straight there is nothing worse than permanently having to remove your hair or even green aphids from your lips (yes that has happened to me before) and Kevin Aucion's lip-gloss avoids both these, it feels so lightweight and moisturising on your lips that it is a pure pleasure to apply, not forgetting to mention its beautifully sweet scent. Another great win about this product is its size, it fits perfectly in your beach bag or even in your pocket when your roaming the streets on your summer vacation.
WATERPROOF MASCARA LIKE NO OTHER
There are plenty of times we could all really do with being able to rely on a good waterproof mascara (think sweaty gym days, emotional weddings and holiday days by the pool). However until recently I have never quite got on with them, they have also been either been too thick and clumpy, given my lash a poor lift, or taken 2 bottles of make up remover to get off (ok that's a slight exaggeration, but you get the point). Two weeks ago I went home for a family wedding and forgot my entire make-up bag, so after a quick scream in the car I made my way to Space-NK telling the lady about my ordeal and how emotional I am at weddings she suggested EYKO sport mascara. Reluctantly after about a 5 minutes discussion I agreed to try it out and I was HUGELY impressed. Not only did this stay put as I balled my eyes out whilst my friend walked down the aisle, but it gave my eyelashes a wonderful lift thanks to the semi curved brush and to top it all off the removal of the mascara was a dream, I simply used hot water on a cotton pad mixed with a splash of bioderma mercelo water, its as easy as that! I do however have the mention the packaging...... not my favourite, but in the grand scheme of things a very small minor.
