Both Kylie Jenner and cosmetics are two things which regularly occur in my life. Ok so after scoring 90% on seventeen magazines 'how well do you know Kylie Jenner' ( link here because quizzes are always fun right?) its clear to see that me and my girl go way back. Just kidding, I guess it’s safe to say I have been a KUWTK fan (that's keeping up with the Kardashian for those who have no clue what I am going on about) since it aired in 2007. So when Kylie announced she was launching a cosmetic line in December 2015 I was straight on the case. After about 3 months of continuously trying to purchase ANYTHING I finally got successful. Safe to say that if you managed to buy something from the first few cosmetics realises, then you my love are going far in life because that is some unique talent.
However March this year was my time when I managed to purchase my first batch of Kylie products. Below is a low down of what I ordered and my honest review:
Your products will arrive in a sleek black box, with KYLIE printed on the front. When opening the box all products are wrapped within foam to keep them protected, you will also receive a photo and note from Kylie. So far the girls got it right, the packaging looks great and feels exclusive.
My first two purchases consisted of "Literally" and "So cute" which are light nude glosses, "so cute" is the lighter of the two. So I might be able to read your mind, The hype was all about the liquid lip, so why did I purchase the gloss? Don’t worry I also purchased the liquid lip just at a later date. I originally chose the gloss because gloss wins over lipstick any day of the week for me.
So first of all let’s talk about the cost, now each individual gloss cost $15 US dollar which is roughly £12.18 which I think is pretty reasonable but, here where you get stung. Shipping costs $15 USD, that is another $12.18 and then taxes on top of that (I was taxed £11) taxes are always a gamble unless, you’re as unlucky as me. So all in all that a total of £47.54 for two lip glosses, now that seems pretty steep.
When it comes to the product its self the smell is where I initially struggled. The smell is very sweet and dare I say it quite cheap, think Collection 2000 lip-gloss in 2005 and that is your smell. Once you have got passed the smell (some might love sweet smelling products) the glosses are actually really comfortable to wear, they apply easily, are highly pigmented in colour and sit comfortably on your lips. The only downside I would mention is that the glosses are rather sticky so if you’re after a less sticky gloss this one isn’t for you (try Kevion Aucion from my previous post). I applied the lip-gloss in the morning before heading to Uni and I didn’t need to reapply it until after lunch when it was embedded all over my sandwich....Nice. Over all I was very satisfied with the glosses, Once I had got over the initial smell, I loved the colours of them and how they looked on my lips.
So of course after purchasing the glosses and being rather thrilled I immediately went back online and bought a liquid lip kit so I could see what the hype was about. I chose the colour Leo because I am a lover of a dark intense lip, for some of you this colour will be too much but the consistency, wear and feel will be mirrored if you bought any other colour.
LeoSo (liquid lip) cost $29 that’s about £23.55 but, It does also comes with a lip liner the same colour. So for both a lip liner and a liquid lip this seems pretty reasonable, obviously you need to take into account shipping and taxes (again). The colour however, AAAAAAMMMMMMAAAAZZZIIIINNNNGGGG if you are looking for a really deep rich red then this is perfect. The lip liner is so creamy and easy to use and really helps accentuate your lips, unlike other lip liners which drag across your lips. The liquid lipstick itself comes with a firmer application brush then the gloss which also makes neatly applying your lipstick nice and easy. Again I would like to remind you about the smell, it is still that same super sweet vanilla smell (I kinda think its like marmite. You’ll either love it or hate it). Once the product has dried on your lips however the smell does disappear so don’t be totally put off by this. The liquid lips are also transfer proof, which means you don’t need to touch up after drinking/eating. I wore this to Joel’s birthday party and despite scoffing my face (we had pavlova MY FAV)and drinking throughout the night I did not need to re apply the colour once (that was about 6 hours of wear), so it’s definitely long lasting.
KYLINER - BRONZE
As a daily wearer of Gel eyeliner I was intrigued when Kylie launched her Kyliners. I think we need to stop for just one moment and give the girl a round of applause for the name Kyliner, gets me every time. Anyway… Kyliner was my fourth and final purchase (for now) from the Kylie cosmetics store and in case you didn’t get it from the name its gel eyeliner. The colour of this product for starters is just dreamy it is such a rich creamy bronze. The best thing about this product; you gets a gel eyeliner, a pencil eyeliner (same colour- bronze) and an angled brush (for applying the eyeliner) all for $36 which is about £28, now I think that is pretty blinking fabulous. So the idea is that you apply the pencil first to create a base colour and then go over the top with the gel, this is supposed to help the gel last longer as it has something to hold to. Both eyeliners are super easy to apply, and are very buttery so glide on your eyes. I would say however that the overall look (gel and pencil combined) does not last as long as my other eyeliners, and it definitely is not smudge proof. Therefore I would definitely recommend this product for an evening/night out, but I wouldn’t say it has not got capacity to last all day as on me it smudged very easily.
If you have dry lips, the liquid lips might not sit very well and will crumble, so what I would suggest is that you regularly exfoliate your lips and apply a generous amount of lip balm before wearing the liquid lips (let it soak in before application). Once your lips are looking hydrated and gorgeous use the lip liner to line the outside of your lip and then again to fill them in. This will increase the pigmentation and avoid any patchiness on your lips, once you’ve done this apply the liquid lip and your good to go.
So before I leave this blog here, what I am trying to say is that if you are unsure whether or not to make the investment, I can encourage you I have been impressed with all the products I have tried so far (minus the smell) that I generally do think it is worth it. HOWEVER you know my number one tip I am going to say, team up with a buddy. If you and your bestie are both looking at buying and trying some Kylie products make an order together under one account, that way you can both split the cost of shipping and taxes which makes it so much more reasonable. Likewise Kylie has recently introduced free international shipping if you spend over $60 therefore if you/you and a friend make a purchase over $60 then you'll only have to spilt the customs charge (tax).
Anyway enough rambling. Let me know if you have any questions, or have some Kylie products of your own I would love to know your thoughts/Favs.
